Thorns or roses

Flower thoughts

Flower thoughts

Thousands of petals, thousands of words,

Were they all seen, were they all heard?

Was a single one missed today or back then?

Are they priceless or regarded as nature’s gems?

Hundreds of flowers, hundreds of thoughts,

Were they all loved, were they all understood?

Was there one to change the current outlook?

Are they appreciated or simply overlooked?

Every one plant, every one sowed,

Will we look after, will we let them know?

Is this a chance to rewrite and photosynthesis?

Are they important, to you or to I?

Mother’s day

Flowers, cards, balloons and bears,

The season’s here again,

That one day, an annual event,

Celebrating the trip down motherhood lane.

Let’s remember and thank,

Not just our status quo of motherhood,

But everyone, who helps to nurture the child.

The mothers, step moms who take on the role,

Foster mums who care as if their own.

Nans that help us to bake,

The surrogates that grew bumps of love,

Eggs donated to families now grown.

The women who were like mothers to us,

The confidant, the carer, the teacher and such.

Dads who play both mum and dad,

The strong, the quiet, the resilient care givers.

Let’s take a moment to think of those too,

Who once were a expecting, or have an angel taken too soon.

The women out there hoping that the next Mother’s day is theirs,

For the gift of holding a child they want to share.

To all of you, wherever you are,

There’s no one path to this role, nor no right one to take,

It doesn’t matter how you got it,

What your title is,

Thank you for nurturing, caring, and believing,

On this Mother’s day.

Rose remains – World Poetry Day!

What could be said about those remains,

Did they expect the beauty to slip away?

Age must tamper with it’s worth,

The lines and cracks, faults, not stripes earned.

Once too bright, youthful, so in your face,

Now tired, depleted, slowly wasting away.

Rejecting needle fixes,

Starkness, reality now burned.

The rose laid bare causing quite a stir,

No filters, nor plumping or deceiving shapes.

Still compelling attention,

Rose remains an enigma yearned.

Hunt for roses!

When life throws thorns, hunt for roses!

Everyone has something that makes them happy, a talent, a skill. That’s what makes us all different. Well, mine is the roses! I love almost all photography and the chance to get the camera out, but I most certainly have a soft spot for nature photography, flowers, and of course roses!

If we were sharing coffee, I would tell you that I need two, maybe three cups. Heck, maybe even an espresso. A lack of sleep, lots of ideas, and perhaps too much time spent photographing and editing this week (Is that even possible!)

I would ask you how your week has been, and where your skills have taken you this week. I would try to hold in the yawns as I realise that extra sleep is less editing time, when there’s still a household to keep ship shape. Then I would ask you about your thoughts on the Underwater photography winners this year, and more controversially the World Press Photo Contest winner. I would be open to thoughts, as the later has left me with mixed opinions. A defining moment, real life, stark, bold and scary. But should it be portrayed as the best? With so much hatred already in the world, should this glimpse of a harsh reality in action be what we turn to? Maybe, I might feel more comfortable with an image of peace making, life changing, positivity amongst the thorns. But it invokes an emotional response, portrays it clearly, so some would say it has achieved it’s goal.

I would ask you for any new baking recipes, to try steer the talk away from my insistent photography talking. I love a good cake recipe that’s easy to make, even with the kids involved. Then we could smile over the slightly warmer weather, with no frost or ice in sight this week where I am!

We would both know that I couldn’t resist a new photo share, so would have to show you what I’ve edited this week, and try to not gush as it goes back to my love of nature and flower photography. I would want to listen to your passions, to see what that very thing is that makes you spark, in the same way roses do it for me.

Then, after a break, a caffeine fix, it would be time to get back to manning (or womaning?) that family ship again. Somehow, this ship might be a bit more at ease once the school term starts again after the weekend!

Hope you’re all having a great weekend, and would love to read your Weekendcoffeeshare ideas too!

The month of roses…

It feels like only two minutes ago was the New Year, and now we’re already bounced into February!

Whilst it’s still chilly, the month gets warmed up with Valentines day, roses, hearts and more! Named after the Roman spring cleaning festival Februa, it’s also National Pet Dental Care month in USA, as well as Hot Breakfast month! This year on the 6th February will be 65 years since Elizabeth II became the queen of Great Britain.

So perhaps there is a reason to smile through the frost and cold of this month after all….

I’ve been busy again with more photographic shots and editing, and as it’s now the month of love, what better time to share the latest rose photography image.

Rubber bands

They tiptoed around what it had become, where they were now, and what was to come…

Their romance had withstood the aging of time. Ticking watches no match for what they had created. Days, months, years had come, were seen, and gone again. All twisted into the whirlwind that originally started this movement.

Life’s journey steps not thwarted their love attempts. Everything designed to shake their very existence, their way of being, not an issue for these two. It made them stronger, more determined, perhaps bolder than before. What they couldn’t achieve alone, they achieved together. Encouraging one another, to places where they hadn’t been before. A sincere belief in the good of each other. The passion for the other ones’ passion, almost as strong as their own spark for life in each of their ways.

Words spoken, even those unspoken woven into each other’s memories. Every compliment, passing phrase helping to define the couple, the individuals they were today. The sparkle of his eyes, the smile moving across her soft lips. Each gesture, each secret, gentle gesture shared between them alone.

His touch left tingles upon her spine. The way she softened his brows with her ring adorned fingers. The hugs that turned to embraces. That led to kisses, and nights of passion. ‘I care’ in the taking of the hand before crossing the road, leading her to safety in a world where she could still hold her own. Two white golds rings now revolving the finger where he delicately placed the rings. Time hadn’t changed their love, but had thinned those fingers that held the wedding symbols. Hands that had held each other during the joy, the births of children, the losses of life. Fingers that had intertwined during prayer, of hope, for safety, someone to care. Hands and skin that were weathered from the cooking, and life itself. Despite all this, here they are, in what they had created. His ring now gone, stored away somewhere safe, for where her fingers had slimmed, the weight his fingers had gained.

Voices they can’t mistake, a hello that was begging to be saved. From the first smile, something sparked, a collision destined for something. Neither could still answer exactly what that something was. A questionable force that drove them together, stuck them together with a superglue life mix, and left them forever entangled in each other’s lives, thoughts and hearts. Along the way there had been steps that have stretched that rubber band of love. Where others would have snapped, or let them band go, even when stretched to the thinnest a band would go, they were still there. Consciously, unconsciously, who knows, but they were there, both holding on. If you ever want to know if a band has been stretched too far, try letting it ping back again. Watch the looks, the expressions, those silent rolling tears as you again come face to face. The gentle good-byes, the after thoughts. Should that spark still remain, and remain within them in indeed it did, the journey proceeds once again.

The circle that had gone full circle, had been lapped, many times by this pair. A pair of love birds perhaps, the sun to his moon. The salt to the pepper. The cheese to the pizza slice. Wherever this path may dance next along the way, nothing was more certain than the memories that would remain. Something that couldn’t be broken, no matter where they were, or what they were doing. He would forever be a part of her journey, and she a part of his. Into his eyes, she longed to gaze once again, to see what laid within his soul. That laugh he could never forget, a crazy moment shared over those certain hot drinks.

It would all be worth it, if she could say it again,

I love you.

Photographic musings

Wouldn’t it be great if everything in life was so clear, as what the camera captures, no in between or grey area…

With that in mind, here are the latest images I’ve been creating this week…
